Bending the truth at work might work. In fact, the little white lie could help you gain trust if made with good intent, says an NTU prof. You should, however, avoid lies that get you ahead at the expense of others. This is especially true in startups, since studies show that entrepreneurs are more than professional at calling your bluff. On the other hand, they forgive liars more quickly too. “These are qualities that organisations require in positions that require negotiation, trust-building and a swift ability to recover from a bad situation,” says information systems expert Prof Boh Wai Fong.
